Odometer

Odometer is a system configuration metric used to record and track the cumulative distance traveled by a motorized vehicle or mobile rental asset.

Core Capabilities:

For transportation units, delivery trucks, and towable equipment, tracking odometer mileage is vital for calculating fleet depreciation, scheduling transportation compliance checks, and managing accurate mileage-based billing.

  • System Category: This parameter is tracked within the Asset profile and feeds directly into the Maintenance and Logistics modules.
  • Usage-Based Triggers: Odometer readings serve as a primary metric for setting up Preventive Maintenance Configurations, allowing the system to automatically trigger service alerts at specific mileage intervals (e.g., every 5,000 miles).
  • Billing Integration: For rental contracts that include a mileage allowance, the difference between the checkout and check-in odometer readings is calculated automatically to apply accurate overage fees.
  • Telemetry Syncing: The system can integrate with external GPS and telematics hardware to update odometer data in real time, eliminating the need for manual entries by yard personnel during check-in.

Use Case Example

A commercial depot rents out a fleet of flatbed delivery trucks to local logistics companies. When a truck returns to the yard, the automated telematics system updates its physical mileage logs. Because tracking physical usage parameters accurately is essential for keeping operations organized, maintaining precise distance logs aligns with the strategic principles found in the PREXA365 rental inventory management guide. The platform instantly checks if the vehicle has crossed its 10,000-mile tire-rotation threshold, updates the live Inventory Snapshot, and applies any corresponding mileage charges to the customer’s invoice automatically.
