Planning Period

Planning Period is defined as the specific timeframe - bracketed by the Tentative Start Date and Tentative End Date - during which an asset is officially scheduled for a project. This interval is used to "plan availability and scheduling," ensuring that equipment is accounted for even before the rental officially begins.

Key Details:

    • System Category: This concept is primarily managed within the Opportunity – General (Summary) and Asset Groups sections. 
    • Inventory Impact: During this period, assets are often categorized as Assets On Hold, meaning they are reserved but not yet dispatched, awaiting final customer confirmation. 
    • Status Transition: The planning period helps define when an item will move into the Available After Reservation status, signaling when it will be free for its next job. 

Use Case Example

A construction firm requests a crane for a project in July. The rental manager enters a Tentative Start Date of July 1st and a Tentative End Date of July 15th. This 15-day Planning Period alerts the rest of the team that the crane is reserved, preventing them from accidentally booking it for another client during that time, even if the final contract is still being finalized.
