Buffer Time

Buffer time is the designated period added between two rental contracts to allow for necessary tasks such as cleaning, safety inspections, or transit.

Key Details:

Buffer time acts as a safety gap to ensure that equipment is fully prepared and ready for the next customer before their reservation begins.

  • System Category: This setting is typically managed within the Asset Group configuration or the Maintenance module.
  • Inventory Logic: During this timeframe, the equipment is not shown as available for new reservations, preventing overbooking and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Customizable Intervals: You can set specific buffer durations, such as a few hours for small tools or several days for heavy machinery, based on the typical turnaround needs of the asset.

Use Case Example

A rental company leases a large generator that usually returns from jobsites covered in dust and requiring a full oil check. By setting a 24-hour buffer time in the system, the generator is automatically blocked from being rented out immediately upon its return. This gives the warehouse team a full day to power-wash the unit and complete a routine inspection, ensuring the next customer receives a machine in top condition.
