Shipping Method

Shipping Method defines the specific logistics arrangement used to transport rental assets or sales items from a warehouse facility to the customer's designated destination.

Key Details:

Shipping Method ensures that both the warehouse team and the logistics dispatchers know exactly who is responsible for moving the equipment and how it will be delivered.

  • System Category: This configuration is integrated into the Customer – Details (Shipping Details) tab and is applied directly at the Order level.
  • Standard Options: Common methods include Delivery (where the rental company handles the transport), Will Call (where the customer picks up the asset directly from a Branch Location), and Third-Party Carrier.
  • Fulfillment Rules: The selected method dictates whether the system needs to generate a delivery Transport Ticket, calculate a Delivery Charge, or capture a customer signature at the warehouse loading dock.
  • Freight Terms Alignment: It works hand-in-hand with your Freight Terms (such as FOB) to establish exactly when the legal responsibility and liability for the equipment shift from your business to the client.

Use Case Example

A contractor finalizing an order for a scissor lift request that the equipment be brought directly to their active jobsite. The sales representative sets the Shipping Method to “Delivery,” which automatically prompts the system to calculate an accurate Delivery Charge based on the distance from the closest depot. Managing these transport preferences seamlessly is a core asset of a robust asset management software, ensuring that the warehouse crew receives a dispatch ticket to load the lift onto a flatbed truck rather than expecting a customer pickup.

Think of it as the ultimate routing slip for your fleet – it bridges the gap between your inventory pool and the customer’s physical jobsite!
