Operating Hours

Operating Hours (referred to in the system as Engine Hours) is the metric used to measure the total running time of an asset engine. This value is critical for determining how long a piece of machinery has been in active operation, which informs both billing and maintenance cycles.

Key Details:

Manual Discounting Options provide the flexibility to offer price reductions on a per-item basis, allowing for specific customer negotiations, volume adjustments, or promotional pricing.

  • System Category: This field is found under Assets – General (Details) as part of the Number of meters available section.
  • Tracking Method: Unlike an odometer which tracks distance, this meter records usage in hours to reflect the actual workload performed by the machinery.

Use Case Example

A rental company leases a generator to a construction site. At the start of the contract, Operating Hours (Engine Hours) are recorded as 500. When the generator is returned after a week of heavy use, the meter shows 620 hours. The system uses this 120-hour difference to calculate if the usage exceeded the “8 hours per day” limit specified in the agreement and automatically triggers a “routine oil change” in the maintenance schedule.
